BCM shared on SBS Server access from Domain Clients WinXP

Hi folks.

I´ve installed BCM on our Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition.
On the same machine I got an Exchange Server and Outlook 2003. It works
perfectly
at the moment... I created a Database on a Client machine and exported
it. Then Imported to
the SBS machine. And added some rights on the SQL Database for a
specific User whom I want to access the Database. On the SBS Server is
a ISA 2006 installed... all inbound traffic is allowed
from internal network to the internal interface of the ISA Server.

But I got a Problem "discovering" the Databases on the Domain
Controller when trying to make
the database configuration on my client PC. I changed the ports in the
registry.....
tested it with the following command:''osql -E -S
computer_name\microsoftsmlbiz,56183"

from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/901164

It works. But the Database could not be found... In the registry of the
Domain Controller I left the SQLInstanceName Name field blank....

DO I have to change something else?

On my clients WIndows XP Firewall is deactivated... so this should be
no problem....
any further ideas?!?!? Thanks a lot for your help

We found exactly the same thing when trying to install the BCM 2007 Beta
2 TR here onto an SBS server. The office version is the 2007 beta 2 TR
as well, but still seem unable to connect. The instructions with the
beta say to setup communication on port 5356, and I can connect on that
port when try opening an sql connection, but not when trying to connect
within the setup wizard. Also tried changing the port to 56183, but
still no joy.

In the registry of the

Domain Controller I left the SQLInstanceName Name field blank....

The Registry is only by BCM clients. Neither the database itself nor
sql srever will read those. The BCM client will read that entry.
Leaving it blank is "undefined" behavior. I don't know what BCM will
default to, but it should have "microsoftsmlbiz" if that is the name
of your instance.

I don't quite understand this:

Did you actually export to a BCM file and import that into
a database you created on the DC? Or did you backup
and restore?

Can you still run BCM on the DC, and use the database?
In that case, when you run the Sahring Wizard in BCM, does
the other user show up as having permission to use the database?

If the database exists in the instance. And the client user can
access the instance using osql, but not the database, then the
client user does not have permission to connect to the database.

And added some rights on the SQL Database for a
specific User whom I want to access the Database.

Did you do this with the BCM Sharing Wizard, or directly
in sql?
