BCM won't convert Act 2005 Version 7 with the current upgrade Version 7.0.4.82
Is there a solution for this?
? Possibly converting to Act 2006 (version 8) and not upgrading, or Act 2007
(version 9)
Is there any experience with BCM contact import for the CURRENT version of
act 2005

Robert:

What error message do you get or what does the log say? Do you have ACT
2005 loaded on the PC you're trying to convert from? That's necessary...

Thank you Lon. The error message says, "You have the wrong version on ACT
installed." which is completely wrong. I have only one version of act
installed, 2005 version 7.0.4.82, and it is installed on the current computer.

The database is in my shared folder, and if the data converter only looks in
the ACT folder, this could be the problem, so I will backup and restore back
to the normal ACT folder.

There were some "schema" changes in the upgrade to 7.0.4.82. Could this be
the problem?

The database is currently small, and I can just upgrade my contacts with
..csv, and maybe, as you suggest in your ebook on Moving from ACT! to BCM
http://www.pinpointtools.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=23 I will run both ACT and
BCM for a while. I want to get on with connecting with people, however, and
this limbo and confusion connecting between programs is frustrating.

Has anyone had the data converter in BCM work on a Version 7.0.4.82 in ACT
2005?

Ed:

Sorry about calling you Robert last message -- I'm not sure where I got that
from...

There is a bug in ACT! 2005 (more than one, actually, but more to your
problem...) where you can have one version of the software running and a
different version of the database schema. I'm waiting to find out a fix for
that and will post it asap... That's my theory on why you can't convert. I
don't think it's the database folder -- as long as the .PAD file is
accurate, it should find the .ADF file it's pointing to...

Hi Lon,

After reading your e-book “Moving from Act to MS BCM 2007†I was all ready
to make the leap. But it has been an uphill battle. The Import Wizard will
not work and MS Tech Support says it is an Act problem with the versions. Are
they getting this from you? That is so wrong. Act never meant for the
Software Version 7.0.4.82 to be the same as the Schema Version
07.04.0075.000. Please notice the difference in the decimal places and if you
need more info please visit the site below.

http://itdomino.act.com/act.nsf/1b3...8a594?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,schema,version

My feeling is that MS needs to do something with their Import Wizard if they
want to see Act loose a little market share.
I hope someone finds a solution soon because your last post was 4 weeks ago.

Thanks,
