BCMV2UPD freezes during MSDE install

I installed BCM with Office 2003 and was using for a while. I recently
attempted to load the BCM2UPD and all went well until the MSDE intallation
process. It freezes somewhere between 30 and 7 seconds left. I have
uninstalled BCM update from add/remove and tried again, it keeps failing. I
dont see MSDE in services or in Add/Remove. Another post said the removed
the MSDE Installer folder from c:\ to cure the problem but a searce of C:\
for MSDE returns nothing.

The folder it is referring to is probably one or both of the following:
Version 2/Update:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ

Version 1:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM
