BCWS calculation.

Hi,

I do have an issue with the BCWS calculation that is equal to 0 evevn if the
project as been baselined correctly. This apparently comes from the fact that
the status date is NA.

The questions are the folloeing:

1- The BCWS is calculated up to the date defined in the Status date Field ?
2- If yes, How do I set this field to nbe automaticaly set to today's date ?

Thanks,
Nde

1. Yes.
2. You can write a macro to automatically run when the file opens that sets
activeproject.StatusDate=activeproject.CurrentDate

I believe instructions to run a specific macro "on file open" can be found
here:

Hi nde,

From help:
==================
The BCWS (budgeted cost of work scheduled) fields contain the cumulative
timephased baseline costs up to the status date or today's date.
==================

If you do not supply a status date (leave the status date as NA) , BCWS will
be calculated using the current date. However, once you enter the status
date, project will use that status date. You can type NA over the status
date to effectively remove it and revert back to the current date.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thaks Julie,

Taht is what I though as well, but while looking for other thread on this
forum, it does not seem to be working this way...

I have an example of a file which hase the baseline cost, actuals, but I do
not have the bcws.

Nico.

Look to see if the task was started early. BCWS will only show during the
baseline date period and later. BCWP & ACWP will register as of the [Start]
date.

If the task was started prior to the [Start] date, Project will set [Actual
Start]=[Start] unless you key [Actual Start]. If [Start]>[Status Date] and
[Start]<[Baseline Start], no BCWS will show although BCWP and ACWP will show
once [Start]<[Status Date]

So, if I have a baseline start of May 7th, a current schedule start of 5/2.
Today is 4/20. Regardless of [Status Date], if I claim %Complete, Project
will set [Actual Start]=[Start]=5/2. ACWP and BCWP will show up when [Status
Date]>=5/2 and [BCWS] shows up when [Status Date]>=[Baseline Start] (May 7).

If I key [Actual Start] to 4/17 and claim 25%Complete as of 4/24 then ACWP &
BCWP register when [Status Date]>=4/17. Again, [BCWS] will only appear when
[Status Date]>[Baseline Start]

Hi Nico,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It looks like Jim has
replied and I don't know if he has helped explain the possible causes in
your particular circumstance. Another possible cause is if you have
resources assigned who have the cost accrual set at the end of the task.

You may find it helpful to look at the task usage view and add BCWS to
the timescaled portion of the view. That may help you track down the
reasons.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I think I have Jim's problem. The EV fields are not calculating. I have a start date of last week, current date of today, status date of NA (now). Task view shows task 1 baseline = $1480, actual = $1480, BCWS = 0, BCWP = 0. Is there a "budget" task I have to do first to make those values initialize?
