Become the manager for these

What needs to be setup so someone can use the "Become the manager for these
assignments" option? We have people seleting this option but i'ts not
changing the assignments to the new manager.

We have PS 2003 and I'm new at being the admin. A consulatant came in and
set things up and now it's in my lap to fix. Any help appreciated.

I do not believe this is a permission issue. In the Republish Assignments
dialog, ask your PM's to confirm that they have the "Entire Project" option
selected from the pick list at the top of the dialog, then they can select
the "Become the manager..." option and click OK. The act of becoming the
manager causes Project Server to redirect all pending and future task
updates to the new manager. Let us know if this helps.

Yep, I've confirmed that the manager did have the "Entie project" selected.

What would stop or not allow someone to "Become a manager"?

As I stated, this is not a permissions issue. If your PM's are members of
the Project Managers group, then they can take over as the manager of other
manager's projects. Does this problem occur on every project? Let us know.

My Experience...

Be sure the previous Project Owner(s) accepts all updates into the
plan. This task may be in the previous PM's update queue in PWA. I have
seen a few assignments float with the previous project owner to the
next update cycle. Just be sure to perform the same "Become manager of
these assignments... the following week once these updates are in the
plan.

Also, changing the field Owner may help from within Project Web Access.
In our environment we can only change this field in PWA with Admin
Rights. Go to PWA Project Center and select any row, except the
Project Name, for the project you want to change owners. Hit Edit...
Project Owner is the first field in my environment. Change to the
correct owner.

This is true if you expect this project owner to become the new Project
Manager for all tasks and not just a few....

Hope this helps.
