Beginner multi-level list style ?s

Norm

I'm creating a style for a multi-level (just 2 levels) list.

Have a few "beginner" questions:

1. I first defined my 2 para styles. I gather on the Style>Modify
Style>Paragraph window, I set the Spacing but I can ignore the
Indentation settings since the multi-level List Style will control.
Correct?

2. I then defined my 2 level List Style. On the Style>Modify
Style>Format/Numbering>Customize outline numbered list window, I
adjusted the number format (removed a parenthesis in level 1) and set
the number position, and text positions (both) and linked to my first
para style defined as described in #1 above. I did the same for level 2.
Correct so far?

I've tested and with minimal data so far it seems to be doing just what
I wanted. :) (much background help from John McGhie, thanks)

But two additional questions:

a) The List Style description starts with "No list" and it only says
Level 1 (perhaps the rest is cut off). Why the "No List" and is there a
way other than printing to see the full description of Styles in Style
window?

b) when I put in a body text style in between two multi-level lists it
does not restart at 1. Should it? Can it be set to do so?

Thank you.

Hi Norm:

You're not a beginning at this any longer: you have a greater understanding
of List Styles than almost anyone outside Microsoft :)

A style description begins with the name of the style it is based on.

Whether it restarts or not depends on your setting for "Restart numbering
after..."

Cheers

Not true but a very nice compliment. If you said "almost anyone
inside....." then I wouldn't feel so. ;) ;)

Hope that means I got an A+ on my first two questions?

A style description begins with the name of the style it is based on.

Hmmmm..... one John McGhie said many moons ago....
Means you forgot to define your paragraph style into your List style.
Which
means you have a stand-alone list that will produce some peculiar
effects.

? ;)
Whether it restarts or not depends on your setting for "Restart numbering
after..."

I'll check again to see if I didn't set it correctly.

Thanks for the help,

Norm

A+?? Naaaahh! We're not that generous around here :)

It was a gentle shot across your bows to indicate that you did not need to
ask them: you knew it, and I know it :)

Cheers

I was hopeful. ;) Won't bruise the ego...... well, not too much.

I've had a very good prof and some very good visiting profs (thanks to
all the MVPs) during the past months.

But that prof missed a needle in same post about one of his lectures.
See below:

Which incarnation of the prof is correct if I read these as conflicting
assessments of No List?

Thanks much,

Norm
