Beginner Quest: How To Display a Formula That's Used In A Cell ?

Hello:

Really new at this.

Hav a column of figures which I have summed into another cell.
SUM Formula for this results cell seems to work just fine.

But would like to see, at my option, the formula that is used in the
resultant cell.

When I highlight the cell, the calculated sum appears, which is fine, but on
the bar at the top
of the sheet, I also see this value. I'd like to see the formula there.

I went to Tools/Options/View, and checked the formula box, but
this doesn't seem to change anything.

How do I get the formula to display (somewhere), please ?

Thanks,
Bob

If you're seeing the value in both the cell and the Formula Bar, you have
somehow converted the formula to "value only". Hitting F9 while in "Edit"
mode can cause that.

Re-enter the formula and what do you see?

To toggle View Formulas on/off use CRTL + `(backquote above TAB key)

A quicker way is to Press F2 (does the sames as Ctrl+ '.)

as a side note:

when you press F2 it will also border highlight (in different colours
the cells that are involved in the calculation.

Using Excel 2002-SP1 the maximum highlights are 32. If you go over 3
cells in your formula, no cells will be highlighted.

Enjoy
