Best Practices and Steps to troubleshoot Task Tracking ( % Complet

I need help, best practices and any troubleshooting tips for task tracking

I'm using MOSS 2007 with Project Server 2007 SP1 & SQL 2005. Our tracking
method is % of Work Complete, all projects are forced to use this method.
I've republished all projects to force this change.
I want to turn off timesheets and approval of task updates.
We need automatic approval of any task update.
We want project team members to update the progress of each task under PWA
--> My Tasks, which automatically update project plan information in Project
Center

Can anyone give me the steps to set this up correctly...I've missed
something...I still have to approve all updates and updates don't show up in
project center without republishing the entire project.

I need a simple method of tracking progress on active, published projects.
Please help

Thank you, Angela

Even if you create Rules to automatically update progress into the Microsoft
Project plan, your PMs must still publish their projects. You would need to
develop some custom software code to automatically do the publishing for
you. Therefore, you should probably repost this question in the
microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup and let our developer friends
give you some guidance on the software development needed to address your
issue. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,
Thanks for the update.
Let me make sure I understand...each time a team member updates a tasks
under "My Tasks", the project has to be republished?
So Project Center will not have an accurate picture of task progress
immediately???

I thought I had this process working correctly. Help when you can.

Yes, based on my answer, your new assumption is correct, and your former
assumption is incorrect. After a Rule intercepts a task update and
auto-approves it into the enterprise project, someone must still publish the
project. That would mean that the PM must open and publish the project, for
example, or a software developer must write some code to publish the
project. Hope this helps.

If you haven't already, you should carefully think through your business's
functional requirements before doing any customization / automation of the
approval and publishing processes.

Perhaps you already have done so; one can not be sure in these forums. I
only raise this because it is very unusual to have a requirement for
near-real-time publication of assignment updates.

If you do continue on this path, among the considerations will be:

1) if/when/how to turn off the automation to allow the PM to revise the
schedule.

2) Ensuring your network and server hardware are sufficient to handle
potentially very high frequency of publish jobs.
