Best practices when importing images into PowerPoint

What is the best format and size when placing images into powerpoint. Trying to keep PowerPoint files sizes small. Have the photos look great on both a mac and a pc.

What is the best format and size when placing images into powerpoint. Trying to

keep PowerPoint files sizes small. Have the photos look great on both a mac and a
pc.

I'd use PNG in general but JPG for photo-type images.

If the slides are to be projected, make the image 1024x768 for full-screen images;
if the images are smaller than full slide, make the images commensurately smaller.
