Best product for electrical "loop" sheets?

I use Mech Desktop and Inventor..... and have little
experience or understanding of electrical schematics.

However..... my boss is trying to create electrical
"loop" sheets for PLC automation using plain jane
Autocad.

It seems very cumbersome doing this. Basically like
using Autocad as an Etch a Sketch.

Would Visio be a much better "tool" for what we are
trying to do?

Visio cannot compete with specific electrical products that do circuit
analysis. However, if you are drawing these in plain AutoCAD today, you may
find Visio a better tool for the job. Visio lets you create and reuse
shapes, work with dynamic connectors and associate text with shapes. You
could even add custom properties and generate reports if you wanted to.
Visio can export to AutoCAD if you want your final drawing in a different
format.

Visio has its advantages. However, you may also want to look at Autodesk's
upcoming AutoCAD Electrical 2004 product and compare the two. There may be
info on their website about it.
