Best settings for IMAP

My ISP just set IMAP up on their new mail server. I have a lot of mail in
Entourage and use many folders, all of which are now sitting happily on
their server.

I've been playing with the various IMAP settings in Entourage and I'm yet to
settle on the combination that gives me the smoothest e-mail ride.

There seem to be performance advantages and disadvantages to using things
like live updating and the various deletion settings, so what have people
found to be the best settings for those functions?

My ISP lets me pre-filter mail into my IMAP folders - does that make sense
vs. Entourage's Rules?

Tips and suggestions welcome :)

The best performance for those settings depends entirely on what your ISP's
IMAP implementation supports. For some, live updating does nothing at all,
for others, it makes the gathering of mail a less 'batch oriented'
operation.

You will have to try the various options and see if they suit your way of
working.

Oh, yes!

In entourage, filtering through the rules takes place after dowmnloading the
messages, so for me it means I need to wait for all the subfolder to be
updated before the messages are accessible. A combination of ISP
pre-filtering & live updating would be wonderful.
