Best way to be found on Search Engines (google, yahoo, etc)

Howdy,

I have a website up and am looking for the best wya to set up my site so it will be found on search
engines. I have certain words in the page title and in the body of the pages. I've also added the
<meta name="keywords" content="..."> to the pages and listed a bunch of keywords.

Is there anything else I can do to make the pages show up? It's been a month or so and I still
don't see my site when I search online. It does come up on referral pages I've submitted the site
to but it doesn't come up on it's own at all.

Just looking for general suggestions.

It can take 6 to 8 weeks or longer to appear in the search engines.

Yeah I know it can take a while, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving out a critical step to
make sure that I eventually start showing up.
