Best way to deal with contractors and end users that perform testing

For short-term contractors and end users, is it good to use generic
resources for assignments? I assume that generic resources do not
submit progress reporting via My Tasks.

I would make them local resources, typed manually into the Microsoft Project
plan. Remember that if the PM uses Generic resources on tasks, those tasks
will show on the My Tasks page for the project manager. My guess is your
PMs will be complaining like crazy about that! :)

and to give you another option...., create an enterprise resource called
"tester", but change the default assignment owner to be either their manager
or the PM. That way, the time goes into the cube and the task can be updated
by the assignment owner.

Would "tester" be a generic resource?
