Best way to handle a name change

M

Matt

What is best practice for handling a Project Manager's name change.
Most of our PMs have a lot of Projects that they have created that
seem to be useless once their name changes. What I've been doing is
creating a new Project account for them but that seems to be a lot
more work later having to recreate all of the projects created under
the old name.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I fully understand what the problem is. Why don't you simply
open the Enterprise Resource Pool, check out the PM in question, and rename
him/her? When you save the changes, doesn't this automatically update the
renamed PM as the owner and manager of his/her projects? Let us know and we
will try to help.

Thanks for the reply. Please forgive me for my elementary questions.
I am still very new to Project Server.

I guess that's my question. When I go into the Enterprise Resource
Pool, how do I go about "checking out the PM and renaming him/her?"
I'm in the Pool, and when I select a name and hit the Open/Add button,
it takes me to the screen "Checked-out Enterprise Resources" new
window, but there isn't any information there to modify.

Being how I already created a new user account for the PM who changed
her name, how do I delete all of the Projects that she had to recreate
on her new account.

Thanks again for the help.

It sounds like you are using Project Server 2003. To edit an enterprise
resource, you need to click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise
Resource Pool. In the dialog, you need to actually select the resource you
want to edit and then click the Open/Add button. Hope this helps.
