Best way to import Outlook 2003 .pst file into Outlook 2007

I currently do weekly backups of Outlook 2003 by doing
File>Import/Export>Export to a file>Personal Folder File .PST This .PST file
is stored on my back up drive. I will then be uninstalling Office 2003. Can I
simply setup Outlook 2007 clean, then setup my accounts then go
File>Import/Export and bring in the backed up 2003 .PST file.

I have looked at a few scenarios here but would like to know which is the
correct and preferred method to bring in about a 150MB .PST file into Outlook
2007. Thanks everyone.

Phil.

File | Open to open it then copy the data over using drag and drop. From
table-based views is easier.

Hi Phil,

first question: Why do you export your files from one PST to another for a
"backup"?

Why don´t you copy the PST file and save this on a CD?
Why don´t you use the freeware backup tool of Microsoft?

How to change from Outlook 2003 to 2007:

If you use an Outlook 2003 unicode PST file you can work also with Outlook
2007 with the same PST file, it is the same format.

If it is not the same format, you can change this. A lot of information
about "PST" files are on this site:

I prefer the way: Backup your Outlook information:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.asp
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/CH063564641033.aspx

deinstall Outlook 2003, install Outlook 2007, reconnect your old PST file.

Thanks both of you. I backup the .pst file to another drive simply for import
purposes when I do a clean install of Outlook. About 1 or 2 times per year. I
make another backup of the backup onto a DVD incase the backup drive gets
corrupted.

Just so I have this right, In outlook 2003 File>Import/Export then choosing
my Profile and saving that backup.pst to another hard drive. I will then be
un-installing office 2003 and installing Office 2007 clean. Setup Outlook
2007 with my 3 e-mail accounts then going File > Open and navigate to the
backed up 2003 .pst file and choosing Open. Once this file is open, where do
the folders get dragged to? Sorry I'm just trying to avoid any issues with
the move to 2007.

As posted many times, niether Import or Export is the way to deal with OL
data files, the process loses settings data etc
With OL closed copy the pst
Within OL, File>Open>........browse to data file

Thanks and agreed. So I should disregard my current backed up .pst file in
2003 and instead make a copy of the one that actually resides in 2003. What
is the default location of this if you don't mind me asking as I have never
in 4 years done anything other than file export > file import.

Click File>Data FIle Management and look.
