Beta 2 overwrote 2003

David Kirk

When installing the 200t beta, I opted to keep all of the 2003 applications.
This occurred in every case except for Outlook 2007, which overwrote 2003.
System restore to two days before installation failed. How do I recover 2003
and keep 2007 as a separate app?

Only one version of Outlook can be installed. You need to choose which one you want to use.

Thanks, Sue. Make a note: tell that to users in the installation process! I
do not remember seeing anything in the advanced installation options
informing me that Outlok would be the exception to the rule. I'm running
2007 now fairly stably and, no surprise, I like it a lot. But can you tell
me how I would go about getting 2003 back if I decide to do that? In the
alternative, how do I make my InBoxer add-in work with 2007? Or is that a
question for InBoxer?

If you wanted to go back to Outlook 2003, you would need to remove Outlook 2007 and reinstall Outlook 2003. If that didn't work the first time, then remove both again and reinstall Outlook 2003.

And you need to ask Inboxer.

It is pointed out in setup when you choose which previous versions you want
to keep. It clearly states that only one version of Outlook can be installed
at a time when you select to keep Outlook 2003.

To get Outlook 2003 back go into 2007 setup; uninstall Outlook and install
2003.

Not all add-in vendors/developers have made their add-ins compatible with
Outlook 2007 yet. Contact your vendor/developer about upgrades or testing
their Betas.

Well, then shame on me 'cause I missed it totally! I'm liking the beta and
I'll continiue to put up with its funny bugs before deciding what to do about
keeping it or returning to 2003. What happens when the production version of
the Office package is ready for sale? Will it essentially be an "upgrade" to
the beta or will I have to go through an uninstall/install?

We'll only know when the final version is available, but the usual advice is to uninstall a beta and perform a clean installation of the final version.

pal

Sue: I removed Outlook 2003 prior to installing my beta 2007. Outlook 2007
is very unstable for me. Each time I clik on the Reply, Reply All or Forward
Outlook crashes and reopens. How can I fix this?

Disable all add-ins to Tools | Trust Center | Add-ins.
