Beta 2 Technical Refresh Update / Installation Clarification

T

Travis

I am unclear as to the exact methodology for installing the MS Office 2007
Beta 2 Technical Refresh.

I have seen various posts elsewhere which say that:

1. It must be downloaded as a single file and installed over an existing
2007 Beta installation.

2. It can be downloaded and installed as a "stand-alone" program, even if
the "original" 2007 Beta 2 has not been previously installed.

3. That it will be (either automatically or optionally) installed as one of
the routine "Office Updates" if you have 2007 Beta 2 installed and have kept
the other required patches up-to-date (or put another way, you wouldn't have
to download the Technical Refresh as separate file, but simply by using
2007's built-in updating program, just as you do with the "Microsoft Updates"
for the operating system).

Please indicate which of the above three scenarios is the correct one, if
you would be so kind.

Also, if this exact same question has been asked and answered elsewhere in
this forum, my apologies; I did a search and couldn't find this precise
information.

Many thanks.

Hi Travis,

In general the Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh (B2TR)Packages are update patches to the MS Office 2007 Beta 2 products.

All Office 2007 apps installed need to be at a matched version level, either Beta 2 or Beta2+B2TR. MS Office Professional 2007 B2TR
update covers MS Office Professional Beta 2 plus One Note. All of the other MS Office 2007 Beta 2 products have their own, separate
B2TR update packages. If you visit http://microsoft.com/downloads and search on
B2TR
you should get a variety (be sure to check that the ones you are downloading are for the language edition of Office 2007 Beta 2
installation.

There is no support through either MS Update or Officeupdate for updating from Beta 2 to Beta2+B2TR.

Okay, I'm almost there, but not quite.

I followed the link you kindly provided and saw that there were no other
particular patches which I'm interested in; I'm ONLY going to install the
basic, core Office 2007 Beta, sans any other ancillary programs which may be
included with the package.

However, I plan to do a "custom" installation, which means I'm only going to
install Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and whatever other general Office
"integration" files are required to go along with them.

I will not be installing Publisher, Access, SharePoint, Contact Manager, or
any of the other offerings.

In this case I assume I just need to download and run the file named
"Office2007B2TR-KB000000-FullFile-En-US.exe (which appears to be about 494MB
in size), and it will simply look for and update whatever core Office 2007
applications I have installed?

I just want to be sure that, for some bizarre reason, I don't have to have
the FULL Office 2007 Beta suite installed for the Technical Refresh to update
it.

Thanks, and standing by.
