Beta 2 TR causing errors with Borland Database Engine (BDE)

Beta 2 had been installed and working fine. Installed the TR this morning
and now all applications that utilize the Borland Database Engine (BDE) fail
with an Application Error that has this message "Operation not applicable.".
There is only an OK button to click and the application terminates.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks
Scott

Have you checked with the folks at Borland to see if this is a known issue
and if they have a fix for it? Otherwise, can you re-install the
applications that use the engine?

The BDE is no longer supported by Borland but it is still widely used by a
lot of applications that need simple relational database access.

Reinstalling the BDE does not solve the problem. After looking into it I
noticed that Office 2007 TR installs a new Paradox driver that is somehow
interferring with the native driver built into the BDE. The new Paradox
driver was not present in Beta 2. At least I don't think it was. I have not
reinstalled Beta 2 to find out since I had to uninstall Office 2007 compltely
to be able to continue my development work because all my apps that I write
use the BDE and they all broke after I installed the TR. I probably won't
reinstall Beta 2 (which was working fine) until after some workaround or
resolution to this is found.

When I was using MS Office 2007 Beta2 and was not having any troubles with
some of the other Database Apps that I have on my system. These Apps require
the BDE (Borland Database Engine) in its original form to function. When I
installed the Beta 2 Technical Refresh, and then when I tried to use my other
Database Apps I received this error:

"Exception EDBEngineError in Module **.exe at 0007923A. Operation not
Applicable".

This error happened with all my Non-Microsoft Database apps that require the
BDE to be in its original state of function. It is clear to me that the
Beta2TR has modified the BDE which is not a Microsoft app. When I checked the
BDE before installing the MS Office 2007 Beta2TR it did not have these fields
located in the ("Configuration" Tab, Configuration, Drivers, Native and
Paradox):

"DLL, DLL32, ODBC DRIVER, DRIVER FLAGS, AND TRACE MODE".

These fields were not present before installing MS Office 2007 Beta2TR but
were there after the install. It is clear that these Microsoft additives to
the "Paradox Native Driver" in the BDE are what is causing the error that I
received when I tried to run my other Databases Apps. And furthermore
Microsoft does not have the right to change or add things to the native
driver of Paradox or any other native driver in the BDE, other than what
belongs to Microsoft. I have 2 screen shots of the “BDE Paradox Native
Driverâ€, one before installing Beta2TR and one after, this proves that
Microsoft was adding fields to the BDE in an area that they have no right to.
The Paradox driver in the BDE that was changed is not owned by Microsoft. By
doing this you have disabled other Database apps from working that require
the BDE to be in its original and UnMicrosoft modified state.

If you think that the Beta2TR is not the cause of this think again. The
Beta2TR is responsible for the cause of this error. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled Office 2007 Beta2TR several times. My database apps work without
the TR installed, but with the TR installed my database apps do not function.
I have also reinstalled the BDE several times with no help. If Microsoft does
not take responsibility for this problem they caused, then this is just one
more reason for me to use other apps not created by Microsoft including
another OS. I hope you (Microsoft) will do the right thing and come up with a
patch to correct this in a timely manner (like 1 week or 2), and not the
normal time it takes you to fix one of your goofs (like 2 years).

And further more quit blaming this on Borland, by requiring them to come up
with a fix when this is clearly your problem. I am tired of Microsoft making
faulty software and blaming someone else for their mistakes (It makes
Microsoft sounds like a 2 year old). Here a suggestion quit making crap and
make a reliable product for once.
