Beta 2003 technical update error: Can not install file

T

Trond

In my 2003 Beta kit, Visio 2003 was not included.

So, I did not have any Visio installation on the PC today
when I downloaded the Visio 2003 Beta technical update.

Now, when I have downloaded the Visio 2003 Beta Technical
update and try to install, I get an error message when I
try to click on the setup file " setup.exe is not a
valid win32 application"

Is there anything missing or is the file just corrupt? Or
do I need to do anything else first?

I think I followed the instructions on the download page
completely so I am puzzled..

Thanks

Hi There,

From our preliminary investigations of this issue we have identified
two known scenarios where the refresh install may fail:
1) Machines that have Office Beta 2 installed and haven't had the
refresh installed.
Workaround: Install the Office System Beta 2 refresh.
2) Machines that have dual boot operating systems that have the
Office System Beta 2 or another MSO client application installed on
them. Visio setup blocks installing over incompatible versions of
MSO, and displays an error message. The dialog text specifically calls
out "Microsoft Office System 2003". If you have an internal tool or
unreleased application that uses an incompatible version of MSO, you
may see this error even though you are complying with what is required
in the dialog text.
Workaround: Rename the MSO.dll (e.g.MSOold.dll) on the other drive -
located in the X:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\OFFICE11,where X: is any drive letter on your system - complete
the Visio install, and then rename the MSOold.dll back to MSO.dll.

The block for issue #2 was strictly put in place for the Beta Refresh
in order to prevent our Beta from corrupting any other applications.
No such block will exist in the final shipping version.

You may need to remove the Office Beta completely (make sure you clean
Office 11 out of the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and
then installed Visio 2003 Beta Refresh.
