beta feedback

Avi

Hi all,

Is there anywhere I could post beta feedback, bugs etc.? If it's a
beta, I'd like to help! Specifically:

Bug: When I'm using "Print/Send to Microsoft OneNote" from PDF and then
convert to text it always converts O to 0 (zero).

Missing Feature: No search and replace?!? I found it so hard to believe
I searched the menus, then the help, then this group ...

(Office?) Installation Bug: Every time I start OneNote (AND whenever I
search in OneNote) it bugs me about "OneNote requires the Microsoft
Windows Desktop Search...". I downloaded WindowsDesktopSearch and I
tried a few times to install it, and it failed installing! Moreover, it
conflicts with Google Desktop search. Now, there are three 'bugs' here:
1. Installation shouldn't fail.
2. You should provide me with an option to shut down the message.
3. You should accept that lots of your users will not give up on Google
desktop search!

Aloha Avi,

You can post it here and it will get read and passed on if it's useful.

For your first bug -- what sort of things are you printing from PDF? Handwriting
that you're then converting to text?

Feature: No, no search and replace at present. I agree it would be a useful
feature though it is sort of more suited to finished documents which isn't
really OneNote's purpose. Still, it's near the top of my feature wish list
for the next version.

Installation Bug: See if this helps: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=919163
You don't have to give up on Google Desktop, but if you don't install WDS
you don't get full functionality in Outlook and OneNote.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your answer!

I'm "printing" printed material from PDF. This should absolutely work.

Re. Handwriting, that's another bad. I've connected a Wacom Graphire
tablet to my computer, but I can't get OneNote to work with digital ink
(except for drawing using the pencil tool). I suspect this only works
with a Tablet PC or in Vista.

Even Notepad has it.

1. Don't make them conflict. Installation stopped when it detected
Google (but it did not install even when I closed Google).
2. If I can't or won't install, make that warning go away and work in a
"reduced" mode.

Aloha Avi,

Oh, so you're letting it OCR an imported image. O.K., probably a flaw in
the OCR engine. Not sure if they'll be able to fix that before release or
not.

Long known -- the inking engine is in the Tablet PC OS.
Even Notepad has it.

Notepad's search is considerably weaker than OneNote's. :)

#2 is probably what you'll end up with.

Did you get WDS3 or WDS 2.6.5? The current available version of WDS3
only is an engine, has no UI, and only supports Outlook & OneNote.
To get rid of the warning completely:
Set these regkeys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\EnableWDSIndexing
= 0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\OneNote\Options\Other\ShowWDSUpdateWarning
= 0
MS is aware that this is annoying, but B2 doesn't have a UI element to
switch the warnings off.

Guys, the "E-mail attach" in the beta of Office suite doesn´t seem to work.
Has anybody experienced the same problem, or has a solution?

Thanks

Are you trying to use OneNote 2007's email attachment feature with
Outlook 2003? If yes, then it won't work in this beta version. It should
work with Outlook 2007.

It works fine with Outlook Eypress if that is set as the default mail
handler.
Might be a workaround if one normally uses Outlook as the mailer.
