BETA: Word 2003 registry not updated properly on install

M

Manuel Esteves

Background:
Our application uses the Registry to determine which
version of Word is installed/being used. Our application
uses several areas of the registry to determine this
(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, etc..).

Problem:
The Office 2003 Beta installation is not properly
updating the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry. The
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Application\CurVer contains
Word.Application.10 after installing Office 2003. Also,
there was no Word.Application.11 directory created in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. All other registries were updated
properly to Word 11. The install was performed on a
machine with no prior version of Office or Word. We
tried the install a few times with the same results.

Questions:
1) Are you aware of this problem?
2) Is there a patch for the beta?
3) How will the final release work?
4) What's the earliest we can obtain a copy of the final
release?

Hi, Manuel,

Did you ever download the Beta 2 Technical Refresh version? It was posted at
least a month ago. However, since the beta test is now officially completed,
I'm not sure whether the download is still available.

Checking my registry with that version installed, all the entries you
mentioned are there.

If you have an MSDN subscription that includes Office, the final version
will be available in early October.

Hi Manuel,

My HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Application\CurVer key updates correctly.

Have you tried starting Word and seeing if the value changes to the
correct version?

Where did you obtain the Beta? Please take a look under Help/About and
provide the full version number.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
