Bibliography cross-references

Stefan Robert

Hello again,

another problem that I have:

The bibliography of my document is a numbered list that is configured
like this:

[1] Smith, J. (2004) A beautiful day!, IEEE Something, vol. 1
[2] Johns, J. (2004) A not so beautiful day!, IEEE Something, vol. 2

Where the numbered list is [1], [2], [3], etc.

Now I would like to be able to cross-reference these bibliography inputs
like this:

Some text contradicts each other [1-2], [4] but they seem [...]

Is there a way to make this possible?

Right now because my bibliography is a numbered list configured with
numbers between brackets, I can only refer to it like this:

Some text contradicts each other [1]-[2], [4] but they seem [...]

thanks for the help!

You'd think with all the various options for cross-references to numbered
items, you could find one that omits punctuation and then type in the
brackets by hand. Unfortunately, I've tried them all, and if the brackets
are part of the number format, there's no way to achieve this.
