Big delays using Outlook, Excel and Word

About 2-3 weeks ago I started experiencing big delays when using Outlook, Excel and Word. Everything always works eventually but it often takes 5-20 seconds just to send an email for example. The problem appears to be related to my antivirus software since I am now often getting a "Requesting Virus Scan" in the lower left of the screen during the delays (in Excel), and I also get a % of completion window when sending emails that looks like a virus scan. I never noticed these before but it may just be the slow speed that makes the virus-related messages visible. IE seems to be fine, as do my non-Office programs, and I'm told by my ISP that my modem, router etc. are all fine. I use Windows XP Pro, Office XP Pro and Norton '03. I haven't changed any of the settings. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to disable the Office Plug in for Norton AV 2003. See this site
