Hi,
I just purshed Office 2008 for MAC, I was able to use Office PC (for example XP) to write Farsi language. But on my apple and with Office 2008 I was not able to do so.
I am even able to write in Farsi (or arabic) usin Powerpoint and Exel, so why it is not posible to do it in Word?

If it is posible, could you please help me to find out how dose it work?
thanks very much

It doesn't work, sorry. Mac Word is not the same program as WinWord. At
least I know Arabic doesn't work, no right-to-left languages do.

Investigate Nisus Writer, Mellel, and maybe NeoOffice as alternative
programs that will let you use Farsi and Arabic.

I won't upgrade from Office 2004 if I knew that.

It's very disappointing that the MacOS office is less good than the win-office.I hope MS-MacBTU is working on an update that would enable Mac users of office to work with arabic, Farsi and other linguas

I use Nisus for writing Arabic and it's Great. I recommend it without reservation.

this is very disappointing...

bought this app to discover its a handicap version of win office. office was the best thing that ms did... still is, in windows at least!

its not an excuse that ms office 2008 doesn't have arabic or multilingual support because its different than ms office for win!! one would expect it would be better and would take the good things from it!!!!!

as for the cost argument, its shameful that open source word processors provide this service but ms cant afford to provide it!!! we are talking about giant here!

the way i see it, ms wants to make their win office superior, so ppl would stick to the win platform, since it dominates the global market. no wonder, mac msn messenger cant voice-chat with win msn messenger... thats pretty lame.

we want RTL (arabic) support for mac word.

No disrespect for your position, but this isn't the place to state it -
those from MS who make such decisions *don't* spend any time here. If you
want your opinion to be seen by them use Help> Send Feedback.

Yes I agree, we need arabic support for Office Mac 2008.
I really don't like having the free OpenSource with Arabic on my Mac and the $$$ Office is not supporting Arabic & Right-to-Left Language.

I am an Arabic student and recently switched from PC to Mac. I bought Office 2008 and was ready to type my Arabic homework in Word... just to discover I can't as it will not connect the letters correctly. I am so angry about this... what a complete waste of money on a new computer and new Office 2008. Thanks for nothing. I feel your frustration everyone. I have submitted my feedback elsewhere but I still wanted everyone to know you are not alone. Mac let us all down big time.

Hello annoyed -

I sincerely appreciate your disappointment but wanted to offer a couple of
thoughts in the event you happen to return.

"Mac" didn't let you down - OS X supports RTL, you simply chose to purchase
a software package - Office:Mac - which doesn't take advantage of that
support. Before you refocus your anger on MS, however, consider that
Office:Mac never has included RTL & nowhere does MS suggest that it does.
Unfortunately you made the "logical" assumption that Mac Office is identical
to Win Office, when the truth is it is not. There are many differences, pro
as well as con. Although that body of differences isn't overtly advertised
it's a rather widely known fact.

I'm afraid you've learned a life lesson not taught in most classes and
you've learned it the hard way... Before you invest in anything determine
whether it will satisfy your needs.

Check with the source from which you bought Office to see if they will allow
a return or exchange. There are other programs which do support RTL on the
Mac such as Mellel (Education version US$39) among others. But I wouldn't be
as hasty to trade in the Mac:)
