Hi,
I had posted a question here a while ago regarding
installing STS on win2k SP3 and the answer was to try it.
Well I tried it and it doesnt let me install STS I get
this error message:
Microsoft Project Server: SharePoint Configuration Wizard

Setup error:

SharePoint Team Services failed to provision
STSWebSiteName.

The reasons could be:

You have entered incorrect database connection
information. The specified virtual server cannot be
extended by SharePoint.

You can investigate the problems via "Microsoft SharePoint
Administrator" in Administrator Tools.

To fix the problem, remove SharePoint Team Services from
your server and try the installation again.

Do you guys know what im supposed to do

I would appreciate any help.

Hi Anahita,

You probably have FrontPage Extensions installed on the computer. Here is
how to back out of the error:

1) Run IE and go to the SharePoint administration website (i.e.
http://myserver:8833). Note: the 8833 is just a random number. If you do
not know the STS Administration port for your computer, right-click the
SharePoint Administration website in the Internet Services Manager and
choose "Properties". The port should be listed in the opening "Web Site"
tab.
2) If the website for Project Server has an "Administration" link to the far
right, click on that and choose the "Uninstall Microsoft SharePoint" option.
If not, continue to the next step.
3) Go to the Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and remove SharePoint.
4) Go to the Control Pabel->Add/Remove Programs->Add/Remove Windows
Components. Do a little digging under IIS/Web Services and you should find
FrontPage Extensions. This is usually installed by default. De-select this
and let Windows remove it. Reboot.

Now, install STS again:

1) Make sure you have SQL Server running already because you will need to
provide connection information.
2) On the Project Server CD, find the program called "Setupse.exe" do not
run it yet. Instead go to a command prompt (Start->Run->CMD) and go to the
folder that way.
3) When you are in the SharePoint folder, type "setupse.exe /nd". Run that
to re-install STS. The serial/activation key is the same number as that of
your MS Project install.
4) Download and install Office XP SP1 for SharePoint (if you want, install
SP2 as well... both links are provided). SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4-31FC-480B-9CD9-ADCCB6997CE3&displaylang=EN;
SP2:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...53-AB76-4A63-99DA-B4ED914C1514&displaylang=EN
5) Re-boot.
6) Run the Internet Services Manager, right-click on the website for Project
Server, Choose All Tasks->Configure Server Extensions 2002.
7) When the IE window opens to extend the virtual server, enter all the
appropriate information for the admin username, database server, etc.
8) When the Project Server website has been properly extended, search the
Project Server CD for a file called "stswiz.exe". Run this and allow it to
finish configuring SharePoint for the Project Server Website.

That ought to do it. Now you can install Project Server. If you already
installed Project Server, you should be able to run it.

Please respond here if this does not work.

Good Luck!

Hi Anahita,

One other thing... make sure you run the PSCOMPLUS.exe file when you are
done!

Bill,
Thank you so much for your reply. I tried what you had
suggested and it was going well until it said that it
couldnt find a file( ows10.cab?? error 1311) I see the
file in the Share Point folder but the setup program
doesnt see it for some reason . Im installing office XP
again (version 2002) Im getting the same error message it
cant find the source file. I don’t have front page
extensions and Im using * SA * account for SQL. The STS
did not get installed (the set up program said it was
cancelled) so I dont see it in the IIS website. Do you
think it partially installed it and left some files
behind? How can I find that out? there is nothing under
IIS to delete.Im really confused , I have done this before
on one box and everything went so well and now Im so
frustrated . Please let me know what you think,
Thank you so much,
Anahita
