Billable and cost rates

S

Shin Saito

Is there a way to provide two rates for each resource?
One is the standard (cost) rate and the other their
billable rate. This would allow me to run reports and
accurately reflect work gross profit on an aggregate
basis.

There is probably a basic way to do this that I am
missing. Thanks

To set multiple cost rates for any resource, do the following:

1. Apply the Resource Sheet view
2. Double-click the name of any resource
3. Select the Costs page
4. Enter the billable rate on Cost Rate Table B
5. Click OK

The Cost rate on Rate Table A is the default cost rate for any resource
assignment. To select precisely which cost rate is used for each resource
assignment, insert the Cost Rate Table column in the Task Usage view, then
select the desired rate. Hope this helps.

Hello Dale,
I think that Shin needs to display for each task and for the whole projet : Cost price and Billable
price both at once, so that he is abble to display the Profit margin. I think it's not possible
without VBA programming.
What do you think about it ?

Thanks for the followup comments and question. If Shin wants to show the
the Cost price and Billable price in two separate columns in Microsoft
Project at the same time, that is a pretty tall order. Because of how
Microsoft Project calculates the Cost for each task, adding an custom Cost
column containing a formula would also be difficult, and would probably
require a VBA macro in addition to the formula.

If it were up to me, I would apply the Cost Rate Table A costs to the
project, then copy the task Cost table data to Excel. Then I'd apply Cost
Rate Table B costs to the project, and copy only the Total Cost column to
the Excel workbook. That would give a side by side comparison of the two
sets of costs. Maybe there are simpler ways to do it, but I'm not feeling
well today, so I can't think of other ways. Maybe you or the others have
some ideas, too. Thanks for asking.
