I'm working on a PPP for a non profit benefit I'm doing next month. I've
created a presentation with about 40 slides from health care work I've done
in New Orleans, all synchronized to a CD of jazz/blues.
Slides are timed at approximately one minute intervals, and most of the CD
tracks I've inserted (Insert menu: Insert Movie/Sounds; Play CD Audio) are
about 4 minutes long, plus or minus a minute.
So most slides are set on one minute timings to advance automatically. This
is working fine. Audio is set to play from the beginning of each track, and
to stop playing after four slides. Slide timings are adjusted so the fourth
slide and the end of the audio track conclude at the same time.
My first four slides, everything runs as planned. The last track (16) of the
CD plays in full, Powerpoint advances to the fifth slide, and track 10 starts
to play
Everything still working fine. Then, the sixth slide pops up - a
particularly devastating scene from Hurricane Katrina, and the music abruptly
stops.
I've worked on this for several hours, but can't seem to eliminate this
erratic behavior. Somehow, it seems to be a bug in the program, or my file,
as it doesn't matter whether I play the file saved on my laptop, or on my
desktop, the same thing happens.
Track 10 refuses to play anymore, until Slide 9 comes up, and then a new
audio track starts to play, and the rest of the show works fine.
However, in the past, I've been able to temporarily fix the problem by going
to View Task Pane: Custom Animation, Effect Options, Right clicking on "Media
2", Effect Tab, and then unclicking the "Stop Playing Clip after 4 slides",
clicking the "Stop Playing Clip on Click", and then reclicking "Stop Playing
Clip after 4 slides". That will often reset it so that the transition between
slide 5 and 6 works fine, but it doesn't seem to be a permanent fix, as the
same problem later recurs.
Additionally, another pseudo solution which works is while I am in View
Slide Show mode, and the errant cessation of music occurs, I move the cursor
to the top arrow of the vertical scroll bar at the right of the screen, going
back to Slide 5 and starting the music again. Then, I simply click the down
arrow, and go to Slide 6. The music keeps playing, only now the Audio is out
of synch with the slides, so that when I get to the end of slide 8, the audio
track gets cut off when slide 9 comes up and a new track plays.
Not sure what to make of this problem? Would it be less likely to cause this
problem if I placed the CD tracks inside of the .ppt file. That would of
course increase the file size by almost a factor of 100?
Any ideas for a solution, or insights on what is happening, would be greatly
appreciated.
