Bizarre french character font change

I am attempting to create a template for our company. The 2 fonts the
Marketing Department chose are Trajan and Gil sans. Trajan is for the
titles, gil sans for the body text. My weird problem is....when I type a
title in English - no problem. HOWEVER, when I type a title in French, using
an accent, that letter reverts to gil sans. Only the letter, NOT the rest of
the text. However, when I highlight the whole word and change it to Trajan,
it is fine. Anyone ever see this before and/or have a solution? We need to
have this work since I am from a Canadian corporation and everything needs to
be bilingual. Thanks!

It is probably that your font does not support all the accent
characters. Then you have the fallback mechanism to the other font for
these glyphs. Check maybe in another program whether the same is
happening. If yes, you need to choose another font.

Isnt trajan an all capital font? Could this be causing the problem.

Thank you for your quick response. Yes this is an all capital font, however,
it does have the French characters, like É, À, etc. And when I highlite the
word again and reapply the Trajan font, it works fine. There is no problem
with in MS Word.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, the font supports all the accent
characters. It works fine in MS Word (and our other Lotus programs).

Unfortunately, I cannot choose another font - this is the Corporate font and
is used on ALL of our publications and is part of our branding.

I'm in the UK and dont have a keyboard with accents. In word though I can
get keyboard shortcuts eg ctrl ' e for acute to work BUT this doesnt work
for me in powerpoint (with any font) and I have to use insert symbol. So
there is clearly a difference.
Not sure thats going to help but its just more info!

Well, I am dealing now with the same problem in relation to Asian
typefaces. All fonts are working fine, as long as you are using latin
characters. When you are changing to Thai, all the thai characters are
changing to Times New Roman. When you are changing to Khmer, everything
is in Arial Unicode. Only the punctuation characters like the question
mark remains, because they are part of the latin character set.

My guess is that some of the French accent are not part of the standard
latin codepage as well. This means, this letters are reverting to the
default font for some reasons. Do you say it happens to you with one
font, but not the other? Maybe send me the fonts, and I will have a look
at that. It might help me to understand my problem better as well.
