Bizarre Message Duplication in Outlook

Has anyone seen this problem in Outlook 2007 and possibly have a resolution?
If the client moves a message from his Inbox to a PST, it makes a copy in a
subfolder of his PST called lost & found. If he deletes out of the lost and
found folder, it also deletes the original message from his PST.
PST Repair has been run which created the Lost & Found folder. This machine
came in with an external hd that they tried to copy data to. So you have an
internal with partial files an external with partials and a request for a
larger hard drive. Built the new hard drive, copied what was on the
external, and ghosted the image over then restored files. pst were not there
so I had to copy them from altris along with a lot of other files that were
missing.

"Lost & Found" is not a native Outlook folder so either you must have an
add-in that is doing that or perhaps a rule in the Rules Wizard?

Thanks for the reply. The Lost & Found folder may not be native to Outlook
but is still part of Microsoft.The hidden Windows tool Inbox Repair Tool
(Scanpst.exe) was run on the PST file which created the Lost and Found
folder. This folder contains folders and items that the Inbox Repair Tool
recovered. There are no rules in the Rules Wizard that are doing coying
files.

For certain types of corruption in a PST, SCANPST.EXE will create a "Lost &
Found". Folders that cannot be recatalogued as they were originally will be
put into this folder. Sometimes, it is one of the default folders that has
the problem and gets added to L&F. It's still a default folder, despite not
being properly located in the hierarchy you see in Outlook and will continue
to behave that way. Sometimes you can repair it by starting Outlook once with
the /resetfolders command, but sometimes you need to create a new PST, make it
your delivery location, then move or copy the data from the original, damaged
PST to the new one.

All well and good but you already know what CREATED the Lost & Found
folder. The question is what is moving your messages to the Lost &
Found on an ongoing basis. I assume you're not running ScanPST
constantly?

What method are they using to move messages from the Inbox to their PST?
Is their Inbox on an Exchange server or in another PST?
