Bizarre Viewing Problems running on Citrix

S

Sean O''Brien

Hello,

Some background on my environment:
I recently upgraded my the OS on my Citrix Metaframe 1.8 box to Windows 2000
Server.
I run Office 97 to utilize Access 97 Custom Databases and I run Outlook 2003.
I run Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 SP6. I have an NT 4.0 SP6 File Server (also my
PDC). I have a SQL 7.0 Box running NT 4.0 SP6 (also a BDC). And I have a
2000 File Server. I have 15 users that connect via ICA and I have 5 users
that connect via RDP.

Some of my users experience bizarre viewing problems.

Some user's calendar events do not show up in their calendars. I have
verified that there are no filters and there are no apparent permission
issues. Other people with permissions can open and view all the events on
their calendar.

Another user can only see email in the 'mini' preview mode. If she opens
the email or uses the reading pane, the email does not appear.

Most everbody else has no issues at all. These problems do not come and go;
they are constant.

Thank you for your help.

Not to be rude or something but with this configuration are you sure that
Outlook views are your main concern?

Anyway, as for Outlook;
Do you have SP2 + additional hotfixes installed?
Does it make a difference when you enable/disable Cached Exchange mode?
Do the items show up in OWA?

Roady,
Where would you suggest I start with correcting my network configuration? I
am rewriting the databases in Access 2003 so I can remove Office 97 and use
all of Office 2003. I know I need to upgrade my servers as well. We are a
small mfg. company and money has been tight the last few years, so IT has not
really had a budget.

Regarding Outlook:
I had problems with the SP because I am still running Office 97 components.
Perhaps I was installing the wrong SP. I will look for the OUtlook SP.

I cannot enable or disable the Exchange Cache Mode -- it is greyed out under
several different user profiles. It does not seem to have any affect on the
issue.

I am not familiar with OWA. I can open a calendar for another user in my
Outlook and see all the appts that they cannot see. I can also open Outlook
as the user that cannot see their appts in a different profile and see their
appts. The issue seems tied to just a few Citrix profiles, but all the
settings are the same.

Thanks for your help. Perhaps this will just go away when I upgrade to
Office 2003 completely. I will probably rebuild the Citrix server completely
so I can install everything clean.

Like I said; it wasn't meant as a rude remark; seeing these configurations
(regardless of the reason why) still running just strikes.

The fact that you cannot enable/disable Cached Exchange Mode is because you
are on a Terminal Server (so that is recognized correctly). Regardless of
its setting it's disabled.

Are you running at SP2 level yourself?

Roady,

I did not take the remark as rude. I have been amazed how well the network
has run all these years. Until upgrading to Windows 2000 Terminal Server
with Citrix, I had almost no problems -- other than the occasional fan or
hard drive.

Regarding the SP -- we are all running Outlook 2003 through Citrix. None of
us run Outlook on our local machines.

Thank you,
