Black and White Graphic Prints with a "Screen" in Background

I have my signature as a bmp at the end of letters, and, even though it has a
white background on the screen and in print preview, it prints with a
rectangular gray dot pattern, like a screen, in the background. How do I get
rid of that? I actually had found how to do this last time it happened, but
forgot how I did it and cannot find anything about it in Help or in menus.
