Black box when typing in Word

Every time I type in a Word document there is a flashing black box in
front of the letter i have just typed. this box is independaent from
the cursor which remains unaffected. How do I get rid of it? I run
Windows XP with Microsoft Office Word 2007(2)?

If by cursor you actually mean "cursor," then I can't help. But if by
"cursor," you mean the mouse pointer, then the blinking box *is* the cursor.
You can change its appearance (width and blink rate) in Control Panel |
Accessibility | Display.
