Black is Gray

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I'm trying to print tables where some cells have pictures with black backgrounds. And I change the cell fill color to black to hide the picture edges. This has worked great for a long time.

But something has changed recently. For the last couple of weeks, all my cell backgrounds print as a lighter gray, making the picture edges standout because they're black. And everything looks perfect on the screen.

I've played with cell background colors and printer settings for an hour without touching the problem. And I can't find anything related to color settings in Word.

My boss is not happy.
Can anyone tell me how to get my cell backgrounds to print black again??????

I can't tell you how to fix it, but I can guess what is wrong.

There are two kinds of black: "Process Black" and "Black".

If you set a colour to "Automatic", you get "black". If you set the colour
to "Black" you get "Process black", which is the combination of all of the
printer's colours, and prints a bit "grey" on some printers.

Hope this helps

Found a strange workaround to this problem which actually fits our workflow. Saving to PDF and printing the PDF from Acrobat results in a perfect printout with correct blacks .... wild!
