Prior to the release of Office 2007, I had no problem reading emails that
were formatted using Office 2003 and prior (ext doc etc), but since when I
try to read an email formated from Office 2007 (new ext docx etc), I am
unable to read it.

Microsoft has released a conversion package for the computers. Does anyone
know if there is a conversion patch for Blackberry.

I contacted RIM, but they told me that it is up to Microsoft to release a
patch.

Any sugguestions.

Many thanks

Up to Microsoft to release a patch for hardware they don't make? I wouldn't hold my breath. Simply save your items in the 97-2003 format.

Another person reported that RIM had advised them that RIM would be updating BeS/Blackberry connect during SP4, possibly near
summer, to add that capability. The file formats for Office 2007 are zipped XML and the file formats are documented and available
online for use as is a license for developers who work with them.

For 'regular' Windows/Word users there is a MS Office compatibility pack that opens the .docx files. For Windows Mobile the MS
Pocket PC folks would be the ones who would create a converter for the Pocket PC apps and there is a converter being worked on,
although I haven't heard of a time frame for it yet. (Office for Pocket PC/Mobile is developed by those groups rather than the
Office group for the most part).

(Folks who have Office 2007 can still choose to use 'Save as Word 97-2003' (.doc) file format, but in the meantime you may want to
try either the online converter http://docx-converter.com to see if that gives you the short term capability. The Office 2007 file
formats are an open standard (zipped XML files) so I'd guess there will be other 3rd party solutions available in the coming months
as well.
