Blank Cells in Excel producing zeros in mailmerge Word document

I am trying to import an excel file into a mailmerge word document and not
all of the rows have the same amount of information which leave blank fields.
These blank fields are displaying as zero on the word document. How do I
eliminate these zeros?

Also, why don't cells set as currency hold the dollar sign when merging?

I have posted a similar question today, regarding the blank fields being
displayed as zero. Have you managed to solve this one yet?
