Blank equation 'boxes' causing Out of Memory Error messages

When opening a 98 page Word 2000 document and scrolling down to the first
page containing equations (in Microsoft Equation Editor 3.0 form) I get an
out of memory error message. More importantly, the equations entered in this
document (over 150 of them) do not display but are represented by a blank
outlined box. If I highlight the box and double-click I can get the equation
to show. If I then save the document I can see the equation. The Out of
Memory error messages moves down to the first equation not seen so I have a
feeling that once the document is re-saved with all equations showing the
error message will go away.

Is there a way to do this efficiently rather than going through this process
with each equation? I have multiple documents with this problem so I'm
looking for a better solution.

Thanks in advance.

The blank boxes are caused by Word trying to avoid a system crash
when resources get low. In this case, it automatically turns on
an option called "Picture Placeholders". You can't see any
picture objects, including equations, with this turned on. When
this happens, in Word go to Tools > Options. On the View tab, in
the "Show" section, uncheck Picture Placeholders.

The "out of memory" message MAY have been caused by something
else. See if this article helps:

Thank you for the information Bob.

Interesting, when I checked to see if Word automatically turned on Picture
Placeholders it was not checked after opening the document.

The document is corrupted somehow as an earlier version showed all of the
equations and pictures fine and it took more space than the current version
of the document, about 4000kb less.

Thanks anyway for the post.
