blank fields

I'm using Word 2002 and am Excel 2002 as a datasource. When the mailmerge
pulls information from Excel 2002, it is not suppressing some of the blank
fields. I have been able to suppress some of the numeric values, but my
problem is with dates. I have formatted the needed dates, but when the
mailmerge pulls a blank date field, it is pulling "12:00:00 AM." I have
tried to enter an IF <> statement (as another post suggested) to try and
eliminate that result but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
