Blank hours in PWA <> Hours in MS PRO

Consider the following scenario:
An employee enter 2 hours for a specific task on a specific date.
The employee presses UPDATE ALL.
The manager then receives the update, approves it and updates the task into
the MS Project Plan.

The following day, the same employee realizes that he made a mistake for the
hours entered for that same specific task. The hours should have been zero
instead of 2. Instead of entering a zero, the employee leaves the cell as a
blank. He then enters the 2 hours under a different task.
The employee presses UPDATE ALL.
The manager then receives the update. approves it and updates the task into
the MS Project Plan.

Now the project plan shows 2 hours for both tasks! The first one should show
zero hours.

Is there any way to fix that problem other then having to enter zeros. Our
employees have over 50 tasks assigned to them every week so entering zeros
for tasks where no hours were worked would be difficult.

Thanks!
KJ
