Blank Icons for Excel, PPT etc. when inserting Object

Hello,

When I insert say an Excel Worksheet in an email in Outlook and use
option display as icon, I get a blank icon with just the caption. This
is true for for default, current icons or from file even though it is
apparently pointing to an "excel" icon in C:\WINDOWS\Installer
\{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}\xlicons.exe. I have tried to
extract the excel icon as an .ico file and pointing to that, still no
luck. Inserting an Excel object in a PPT file shows the icon properly
so this is plain mysterious.
