how do you get rid of blank lines after merging an excel
document? the blank lines follow the fields.

You'll need to supply more information. What do the blank lines represent?
Missing field content? Paragraph formatting? Until we know what is causing
the blank lines, it is difficult to suggest ways of removing them.
