For no reason I can determine, the Help window in each of my Office XP (Small
Business Edition) applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc., comes up
gray and blank. Whether I hit F1, click the word Help on the menu bar, or
enter a question in the help window at the top of the page makes no
difference.
I have removed Office XP completely, using the Office XP installer, then
used Registry First Aid to remove all unused registry entries in an attempt
to get rid of all Office XP relics. Following a restart, I have reinstalled
Office XP from the original CD, then installed all three Office XP updates
from Microsoft. Still no luck - the help window remains gray and blank.
I found one reference to something similar to this problem, i.e. "Index tab
missing in the Help window". I tried the solution there with no results.
In addition to this, I no longer get Help in Windows 2000. Clicking F1 or
clicking Help in the Start Menu gets me the message
"Cannot open the file: mkMSITStore:C:\WINNT\Help\windows.chm." I have
reinstalled Windows 2000, including the Service Packs through 4, with no
change.
Any suggestions?
