Blank Pages

Hi, when I click view, from the toolbar, I see my report, but I notice that
in between pages that have data, there is always a blank page; i.e. page one
prints, there is a blank page from page two, page three prints, there is a
blank page from page four, and so on. How can I print everthing on each page
without there being blank pages? Thanks.

The most likely cause of this is that your report is wider than the print
width (between the page margins you have set). Drag the right-hand border
of the report as far to the left as possible - it will only go to the
right-most edge of all existing controls.

edge of the report as far left as possible, but I still get a blank second
page when I'm viewing the report .

The "Report Width" is a property of the report. You can see this in design
view. You can also set it by dragging the right side of the report in or out.

The "Page Width" is normally the width of your paper. Here in the U.S. this
is generally 8.5 inches or 11 inches (if Landscape).

Hi; I'm sorry to say, but your advice, up to your last reply, has not helped
me solve the problem of why every other page is blank when I view the report.
I have tried all of your suggestions, but nada. . Can you collaborate with
someone that can pinpoint my problem and provide a solution? Thanks.

In your printer setup, have you tried to reduce the size to fit the page.

You could reduce it by % eg 95%

Or

You can set it to Fit by Height or Width.

Give it a try.

Else

In the report design mode, can you shrink the report grid to it's minimum,
even if it means moving some of your controls temporarily, then space them
outwards until the anomily occurs, then you would be able to determine what
page width you can work with.

Maybe you have a bunch of empty space at the bottom of a
section? If so, drag the section's bottom edge up to the
bottom most control.

Also check each section's ForceNewPage property and if you
have any page break controls.

Hi and thanks for your advice; that did not work. I don't understand this.
Why do I get every other blank page? I get page 1 with data, but page 2 is
blank, then I get page 3 with data, and so on. I looked and looked, but I
can't figure this out.

Try setting the back ground color of each section to allow you to determine
which section generates the extra page. If you still have trouble then I
expect you may need to re-create your report.

BTW: you should at least reply back with some of the properties that you
discovered such as the Force new page, margins, widths, etc that we have
been asking you to check.

This is a good answer for Excel; the question, however, was about Access
Reports.

Fit to Page is not an option in Access, nor is reducing a report page size
by percentage.

Dominick,

Despite your difficulties in correcting the problem, what you describe is
_exactly_ what happens when the combination of your width plus page margins
is greater than the size of the paper. I don't worry with the Properties...
I can adjust the width of the Report quite adequately in Design View. Don't
try to make it exactly the same... make it a tiny bit smaller. Many formats
for reports have lines on the report that are at the very top or bottom of a
group, and are thus difficult to see. If you try to move the margins past
those controls, Access will pop it right back to the end. You may need to
open up the section, or select from top or bottom, to select those lines,
resize or delete them, and _then_ resize the width of your report.

But, what you see is _so commonly caused_ by the paper width being less than
report width plus margins that I am convinced that there must be something
wrong in your re-sizing tries.

Along that line, is there a utility available anywhere that will scale an
Access report page? I've developed a set of reports based on the
capabilities of laser printers so the margins are fairly minimal. Now I have
some users that want to use ink jet printers with the much larger
unaddressable areas. I'd love to have something that would shrink the image
of each page as needed before printing rather than having to redesign all of
the reports. Is there such a tool out there? Any possibility that Microsoft
will add it to Access since you can do some shrinking in Excel, Word, and IE?
