Blank user - Cannot Open Key UNKNOWN

J

Jack

I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but here it goes.

I have an installation that on one workstation when I get to the option to
install for everyone or 'Only for me()" with no user name in the
parentheses.

Then when I get to where it installs/registers the components it fails with
'cannot open key" UNKNOWN/REdemption...."

I would assume this has to do with the fact that it does not find the
current user name, but how do I fix it?

Hi Jack,

This appears to be an issue with Active Agent for Outlook, a third party
application. Please note that we are happy to help provide information on
this issue for you, we recommend that you work with the third party vendor
for assistance with this.

I am including some general troubleshooting information, as well as a link
to the third party application's support portal for your convenience.

1. I think you may try to run the setup on another machine to see if that
works so that we will if there is error within the setup package.
2. You may try to use another user account(which has never log onto the
machine so that the profile for the user will be recreated) with
adminstrator permission(You may add the user account into Administrators
groups)

It is specific to this Windows account, not the installation. I have tried
several other installations (for other programs) and get the same behavior.

When it get to the user screen it cannot get the username that the windows
session is logged in. The account that we are running this under is in the
admin group so it should not be a permissions issue.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your update.
Also to further isolate the problem, have tried my second suggestion?
Because 1. use administrator account to avoid permission issue, you have
confirmed this.
2. Recreate a user account which has never log onto the windows, so that
windows will create a new profile for user account and then do the
installation.

If the suggestion #2 succeed, we can know that the problem is specific to
that specific user account, I think you may try to delete the user
account/profiles and recreate it so that the profile will be recreated.
Please backup your data first before deleting.

If the suggestion #2 failed, please try to install other application did
that works? We need to know if this is the scenario that any account
installed any program will failed.
Also you may try to monitor if there is any error in the Event Log.

You may have a try.

Best regards,

Peter Huang
