blank values

When i try to connect to an external data source to make a pivot table
i get blank values that should be blank.
i am hooking to a access database that is querying external SQL
databases. Im bringing in 173 thousand records just into the cache
not a worksheet of course. this is excel 2003. any one have any ideas

Why are you using Access as an intermediary?

Can you do this directly from Excel to your SQL databases?

These external databases, are they SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, something else
or a mixture?

I take it that these records are populated with information in the DBs but
Excel is pulling them through as NULLs?

thing is that the sql tables are on different servers and it is
actually faster to do one query and then query against that .... i
dont have direct access to the sql servers.

Why not use a crosstab query in Access instead of a pivot table in Excel?

That cuts out one stage in the process.
