Bleeding Graphics

For a document that has more than one chapter, I would like to position a
color-filled text box on the right side of the page that bleeds off the edge.
This design is to serve as a visual cue for the collection of pages within a
given chapter, much like the physical indentations that appear on a large
dictionary. I'm successful in achieving what I need with the exception that,
when the document is printed, Word's print area does not allow the bleed.

This limitation comes from the printer driver, not Word. Most printers
cannot print clear to the edge because of mechanical limitations.

Is there any work-around?

The only workaround is the same as that used by commercial printers: print
to a larger paper size and trim.
