blinking toolbar & delay

when I go to open a word doc (not all of them) the top toolbar blinks
intermittently, sometimes for a couple seconds, sometimes for over a min
before the doc gets opened up. Hardware power isn't a problem as I have a
new Dell laptop. I am using Office 2000, and this happens with docs I
create, as well as docs that others have sent to me.

Help......and thanks.

You are also using Norton Anti Virus? Open NAV and disable the Office
Plug-in option.
