Blocked from checking office updates?

After downloading and installing ServicePack 3, I can no longer check for
updates. After waiting a few minutes the title bar indicates not responding
and then I have to end task to continue. What should I do? All other site
features work and I have no problems checking, receiving and installing
Windows XP updates.
