Blocked Reading Pane and Unable to Open

I have recently reformatted my computer (Lenovo T-60). I am using Windows XP
and Office 2003 - I've installed all the updates available.

In Outlook I can not see the e-mail messages in the Reading Pane nor can I
open them. I can see the messages if I forward them (with original message
included) or reply. I can see them in a Print Preview screen.

This problem arose after one of the updates I've installed - I can not
believe I am the only one!
