BMP images become corrupt after insertingparent .doc file into .docx file

Hello,

I have BMP images on my dissertation chapters (.doc format) which became corrupt after inserting them into a .docx file. I am manually re-inserting the ungarbled BMP images into the .docx file, but would like to know if I should stick to other graphics formats which are less prone to corruption. I had so many problems with TIFF images previously, so I thought I would stick to BMP, which I assumed was more Microsoft friendly, but I may have been wrong.

Thank you for any help in advance.

Hi Whatever Your Name Is...

The most "Microsoft Word Friendly" graphics format is .PNG. PNG is Word's
native format, used internally.

For photographs, you should use JPEG and set the quality rating
appropriately.

PNG preserves image detail at the expense of colour. JPEG preserves colour
fidelity at the expense of detail. A PNG image is limited to 24-bit RGB
colour. A JPEG will contain unlimited colour. As a rule of thumb, use PNG
for line drawings and screen shots, use JPEG for photographs and
continuous-tone illustrations.

BMP is the most "document-hostile" format there is: it is even more bloated
than TIFF. A file containing many BMP images will soon grow to a size where
Word will become unreliable.

Hope this helps

Hello John,

Sorry for not disclosing my name. That would be "Daisuke" (DICE-K, like the Boston Red Sox pitcher).

And thank you for your continual help, I've noted the efforts of the helpful volunteers on this forum on my "Acknowledgements" section in my dissertation.

I'll remember to stick to PNGs and JPGs, in their most appropriate places then.

Cheers,

Daisuke

Hi Daisuke:

Very nice to meet you! You already know my name -- I use my real name in
here (yes, it is in the Sydney phone book!).

Now: There are certain topics that are not appropriate in a family forum
such as this: amongst them, Religion, Politics, and The Boston Red Sox.
Which is actually all the same topic, come to think of it! :)

You should know that you and your questions are far more important to us
than we are to you. Helping out in here is our hobby. Without questions,
we would be unable to get our nightly "fix".

So it is we who are grateful to YOU :)

Cheers
