Body text added to header after print preview

Hello,

We've been experiencing some random, odd problems with different
documents lately. The documents have a very simple header that, when
the document is first opened, shows only the name of the file, title of
the document, current date, and page numbers.

Everything's great initially. The header is where it should be and all
the body text is in its place. However, if you open the print preview
window, then close back to the print layout view, suddenly the first
half of what once was just the first page's text is moved into the
header, replacing all but the document name that was there before. The
document prints out that same way; that is, with the first paragraph of
the first page in the header on every page of the document.

We've tested the documents on a couple different Word verions (XP and
2003), both of which have the same symptom.

Any ideas?

Turns out that the cross-reference inserted in the header is apparently
the problem.
